NotebookLM is Google's source-grounded research and note-taking assistant, built on top of Gemini. Users upload up to dozens of sources per notebook, including PDFs, Google Docs, slides, web pages, YouTube videos and audio files, and the assistant only answers using those documents, with inline citations back to the original passages. Beyond Q&A, NotebookLM can generate study guides, FAQs, briefing docs, timelines and mind maps, and its signature Audio Overviews feature turns a collection of sources into a two-host podcast that users can even join interactively. A Video Overviews mode produces narrated slide decks, and notebooks can be shared publicly or with a team. The product is widely used by students, researchers, journalists and analysts who want to think out loud over a fixed corpus instead of the open web. A paid NotebookLM Plus tier adds higher limits and customization options.
