Anthropic's terminal-first agentic coder — reads the whole repo, edits across files, runs and commits, powered by Claude Opus 5.

About Claude Code

Claude Code is Anthropic's agentic coding tool. It reads your entire codebase, writes and edits files, runs commands, and commits to git autonomously, driven by Claude's frontier models (Opus 5 and Sonnet 5). It runs as a CLI, a VS Code extension, a desktop app, and on the web, and has become a favorite for large, multi-file work where an in-editor assistant runs out of context. It isn't sold separately: access comes bundled with Claude Pro, Max, Team/Enterprise plans, or via pay-per-token API billing.

EDITOR’S TAKE · hand-written

Claude Code has quietly become the tool serious engineers reach for on big, messy codebases — it holds far more context than an in-editor assistant and will plan, edit across files, run tests, and commit on its own. It's terminal-first, which is a barrier for some, and it needs a paid Claude plan. But on large-project work it's currently the strongest agentic coder available, and most Cursor users keep it alongside rather than instead.
